Elementary - Brookfield Zoo

The zoo can be a really fun trip for elementary-aged kids. Give them a lot of control over what animals to see, and how to structure the day. Top choices are the dolphin show (or free underwater viewing), and Wild Encounters where they can feed and pet goats, feed birds, or walk among the wallabies or emu. The usuals are all great at Brookfield: lions/tigers, monkeys and apes, bears, giraffes, and zebras. Kids this age may really enjoy the free-flight bat area in the Australia House.

For food, Bison Prarie Grill (summer only) has seating outside by a playground. Both main restuarants are good, as well as the seasonal options. See the food page for more information.

For an unforgettable special experience, consider a "Penguin Encounter" at the Living Coast.
