With a relatively small space and many fun exhibits, the Lincoln Park Zoo is a nice place to let older kids roam freely. The top exhibits (the Center for African Apes and the north loop around Macaque Forest, African Journey, Arctic Tundra, and Penguin Cove) are great for this age. Consider the two Sea Explorer "5-D Motion Simulator Experience" in the Lion House, which are $6 per person.
