Brookfield Zoo is such a fun place for preschoolers. I highly encourage a visit to Wild Encounters to pet goats or feed birds. The Play Zoo also allows for a good play break in a relaxing space, along with an animal or two to pet. The usual animals will all be popular with this age: bears, giraffes, rhinos, lions/tigers, and dolphins are all great, so give your child lots of control what they want to see. Consider the dolphin show, but underwater viewing is free and up close to the dolphins.
By this age, it's pretty easy to bring your own food to eat outside, or to pick up food at a place like the Bison Prarie Grill (which is seasonal). BZ Red Hots has pizza, which has been consistently popular with my kids. See the food page for more information about where to eat.
