The Field Museum offers 3 levels of admission: Basic Admission, which includes most exhibits, the Discovery Pass which also includes one ticketed exhibition or 3-D movie, and the All-Access Pass which includes all ticketed exhibitions and one 3-D movie.
Of the permanent exhibits, only Underground Adventure and the Hall of China require the additional tickets. Both are fine, but probably not worth the additional money unless you have a particular interest in bugs or Chinese artifacts.
Special exhibits at the Field Museum are often outstanding, and the often require an additional ticket. See the Field's current list of ticketed exhibits (although the Nature Walk often appears on the list, despite not requiring a ticket). To plan a trip in the future, see this (sometimes empty) list of exhibits that are coming soon.
Basic admission is $26 for adults, $19 for kids ages 3-11, and $23 for students and seniors.
The discovery pass, which includes one exhibit or 3-D movie is $34 for adults, $25 for kids ages 3-11, and $30 for students and seniors.
The all-access pass, including all ticketed exhibits and one 3-D movie is $40 for adults, $29 for kids ages 3-11, and $35 for students and seniors.
Kids 2 and under are free for all three levels. Students are required to bring a student ID, and seniors are defined as age 65 and older. Illinois residents receive $2 for ticket off each price, and Chicago residents can save an additional $5 or more. You must bring a valid ID to receive one of the residency discounts.
You can buy tickets online at the museum's ticket page. No discounts are available, and you'll pay an additional 10% as a convenience fee. You can either choose to pick up the tickets at the museum, have the tickets sent to your phone, or print them out when you're done.
